October 2008 Issue

This is about you and your home or business. I want to inspire, educate and give you tools you can use. Let me help you fine-tune your interiors for the holiday season. Find ways to utilize the most space possible in your home. Notice most what you want to change in your home. Feeling too crowded or can’t get through your rooms?  Do things look tired, worn or boring with what you own? Perhaps it's time to paint your walls with fresh new color, add some fun colorful accessories, update your look.

Neutral cool colors that helped combat the heat of summer may make you feel cold and the warm browns seem dull. Here are some ways to give your home a facelift and bring some life and color to your rooms so that your home feels inviting, warm, and alive!

Find A Warm Color That You Like and Create A Theme

Here are some hot, trend colors going forward into 2009 which will revitalize your rooms and bring some warmth and life into your rooms:
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Habanero chili
  • Pumpkin orange
  • Gold tassel
  • Saffron
  • Fuschia
  • African Violet

Picture these on the rooms in your home. These colors will instantly warm up your rooms and give you energy and excitement. Choose one or two accent walls in your room and paint one of these colors and you will be amazed at the change ! A good way to decide what color you want to choose is by looking at your artwork, color of furniture, flooring and accessories and see which of these colors will look attractive with what you own.

Or… if you are starting off fresh, choose the color that you instantly are attracted to. You will then choose your new accessories and art dependent on that color using it as a backdrop in your room.

Change The Layout of
Your Furniture

If you have a long, narrow room a good way to make your room feel and appear more balanced and square is to angle your furniture. Lining your furniture along the walls will only create a more rectangular room that can seem like a hallway and be less inviting for conversation.

If your room is large and expansive you may want to make it feel more cozy and warm by adding an area rug, pillows, throws, a variety of patterns and texture in your accessories and textiles creating more interest and variety.

If you have a small, square room with low ceilings you can feel too crowded and may be looking for ways to create more seating and floor space.

Modular furnishings with less detail and more clean lines will help make the room appear less crowded and allow for more versatility in how you arrange the room which will give you more floor space.

Bean bag chairs, storage ottomans, large floor cushions, L shaped sofas with 2 or 3 units that can be moved are ideal.
